What the client wanted

This is the first website that I ever created and was an entrepreneurial venture to try to capitalize on my love of cooking and entertaining. It was a subscription-based cooking website.

I originally consulted a "friend in the biz" about developing this site for me, and was told that the cost would be "in the five figures". I didn't have that kind of money to spend, so I decided to try it on my own, given that I had a solid programming background. In the end, I understood why they quoted what they did!

This is not my best-looking site, but it has a whole lot going on in the background: databases and a lot of programming to store and manage the recipes as well as the user accounts.

What I did

  • Designed the look and feel
  • Designed the databases
  • Programmed the whole back-end for the content management
  • Programmed a user-authentication module
  • Designed and programmed forms
  • Designed and programmed reporting modules for the admins of the site
  • Designed and programmed an automatic updating system for the weekly "features" and "meal plans"
  • Obtained and implemented the SSL
